Absorptive capacity: towards individual or organizational themes

Purpose: This study evaluates the relationship between Individual Absorptive Capacity, Social Integration Mechanisms and Organizational Capacity. Using an integrated cognitive learning perspective, this provides empirical evidence about conceptual absorptive capacity (ACAP) model through examining full process systematically. Two groups of moderating variables were studied—namely, social integration appropriability—to examine their impact on process.
 Design/methodology/approach: employed a longitudinal metal mechanic companies in Brasil by using 427 survey responses Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). Data analysis was performed considering: i) Cronbach's alpha; ii) Composite Reliability; iii) Average Variance Extracted (AVE); iv) Fornell Larcker criteria; v) Evaluation Pearson Coefficients Determination (R2); vi) Effect Size (f2) or Indicator Cohen; vii) Predictive Validity (Q2); viii) Student's t-test. Following estimation structural (path coefficients) Partial Least Squares method via SmartPLS software version 3.2.8. The examined six consecutive models analyzed hierarchical linear modelling.
 Findings: confirms that mechanisms are required from organizations to create positive environment for individuals develop knowledge organizational individual levels. can have direct moderator effect dimensions ACAP. complete cycle is self-reliant, dynamic, complex; it involves acquiring, assimilating, transforming, exploiting team level vice versa. results align with micro-foundations perspective because assumes associated cognitions individuals.
 Originality/value: vital support theory as well organization-learning concept. also reveals play key role facilitating both transfer process. findings provide functional suggestions highlight areas future research.
